After the whirlwind of an New Face for an Old Broad and Thanksgiving i have found the energy to post pictures from the event. According to resident Tony Randall, Broad Street was skid row, where the baddest of the bad biker gangs, drug dealers and prostitutes used to hang out. It wasnt what we would call "family friendly".
So the good folks at Livable Memphis and Broad Street Arts District figured it was about time to turn things around. Building that were vacant and unused were opened up for folks like Hillary and myself to set up shop. Our job was create a viable shop for a weekend in order to cast the vision of what that area would look like if it was completely full with merchants. Our space had no water, power and leaks in the roof.
Couple Coat of paints, great artwork and some of the the comforts of home later and skid row was changed into the new home for Alla Prima and the David Butler gallery. It was a great time we had all the foot traffic of the South main Trolley tour but it was for a much longer period of time. Hillary hosted paint parties, art work was sold and a great time was had by all.
But when Sunday finally came the clock struck 12 and our Broad street shop turned back into a pumpkin. Leaving just a couple coats of paint and or logos behind, our little shop was open for just a weekend but you wont hear any complaints from us. We got to be shop owners for a weekend and dream a little.
